In Tribute: Honoring the life and legacy of Chris Christ, former WKKF trustee

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) honors and remembers the life and contributions of Chris Christ, a former WKKF trustee who passed away on Nov. 15 at age 91 in Battle Creek, Mich. His dedication to improving the lives of children, families and communities was demonstrated by his love, dedication and leadership for the Battle Creek community. 

“Battle Creek has lost a legendary champion,” said La June Montgomery Tabron, president and CEO of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. “As a trustee, Chris served the foundation with a sincere commitment to Mr. Kellogg’s vision, and his legacy as a leader and a collaborator should continue to serve as a model in our community.”

Christ was chairman emeritus of Vandervoort, Christ, & Fisher PC, Attorneys. He joined this firm in 1959. Early in his career, he was a trial lawyer and assistant prosecuting attorney, and then specialized in estate planning. He was a former member of the American and Michigan Bar Associations and a past president of the Calhoun County Bar Association.

As a respected civic leader in Battle Creek, he was recognized for his leadership and service with numerous organizations throughout his career. He held many board leadership roles in the community, including with Semco Energy Company, the Binda Foundation; Battle Creek Community Foundation, Battle Creek Health System; and North Pointe Woods, a senior resident community.

Christ earned a bachelor’s degree from Albion College, and a Juris doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate from Albion College.
