BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) announced today the release of its 2018 annual report, “Interconnections: What Children Need to Thrive.” This year’s report reaffirms the foundation’s priorities of thriving children, working families and equitable communities, and illustrates the dynamic interconnections necessary at many levels within and across communities for lasting change.
This year’s report features letters from Board Chair Rick Tsoumas and President and CEO La June Montgomery Tabron. Tsoumas describes how the recent transition to a networked organizational structure is helping to advance the foundation’s vision, while remaining grounded in its founder’s intent. Tabron emphasizes the foundation’s enduring commitment to racial equity, community engagement and leadership and how they are embedded in all programming on behalf of children, families and communities.
“Leadership, community engagement and racial equity are learned behaviors, “says La June Montgomery Tabron, president and CEO, in her annual report letter “When they are drawn into the design and delivery of every programming effort, they model and illustrate the interconnections between a child’s experiences, family circumstances and community conditions.”
Available in hard copy and online, the report contains seven stories featuring grantees from across Kellogg Foundation programming in 2018. They underscore some common lessons about the value of investing in parents, drawing leaders together from across sectors and making equity the starting point for reimagining systems.
A new feature, Our Year In Review, captures significant highlights of the past year reflecting the foundation’s interconnected priorities in grantmaking, mission investments and in its priority places.
Financial Highlights of 2018
The Kellogg Foundation’s financial statements and a summary of grantmaking investments are also now available. For the fiscal year ending Aug. 31, 2018, the foundation made 492 new grant commitments totaling $371 million. Of this amount, the following reflects grantmaking across its priority places of Michigan ($85,189,491), Mississippi ($35,705,353), New Mexico ($18,288,888) and New Orleans ($21,091,133) within the U.S., as well as in Mexico ($16,269,930) and in Haiti ($24,534,734). On average, there were 1,450 active grants each day during the year.
