Partnership for a Healthier America issues its first comprehensive report, showing steady progress and growing momentum

The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) issued its first comprehensive report, tracking the progress made by its partners between May 2010 and December 2012 in helping to reverse childhood obesity and improve children’s health.

As a founding organization, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) applauds PHA for engaging the private sector, and the nearly 50 businesses and organizations – from Fortune 500 companies to small entrepreneurial enterprises – that have committed to measurable actions.

We are pleased to learn of progress in supporting breastfeeding, making healthy food available to early childhood programs and expanding fresh food options in underserved communities.

The Kellogg Foundation believes that improving the lives of vulnerable children will take sustained effort from all of us – foundations, government agencies, nonprofits, businesses, communities, schools, families and individuals.

Through its Food & Community program, W.K. Kellogg Foundation focuses on creating healthy places where all children thrive, with targeted investments toward transforming school food systems, improving community access to good food and physical activity, and shaping the national movement for healthy eating and active living.

The Partnership for a Healthier America is an independent, nonpartisan, organization that has mobilized broad-based support from the private sector to help solve the child obesity challenge. PHA emerged out of a series of conversations between The California Endowment, Kaiser Permanente, Nemours, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. Learn more at www.ahealthieramerica.org.

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation, founded in 1930 as an independent, private foundation by breakfast cereal pioneer, Will Keith Kellogg, is among the largest philanthropic foundations in the United States. Guided by the belief that all children should have an equal opportunity to thrive, WKKF works with communities to create conditions for vulnerable children so they can realize their full potential in school, work and life.

The Kellogg Foundation is based in Battle Creek, Mich., and works throughout the United States and internationally, as well as with sovereign tribes. Special emphasis is paid to priority places where there are high concentrations of poverty and where children face significant barriers to success. WKKF priority places in the U.S. are in Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico and New Orleans; and internationally, are in Mexico and Haiti.
