Achieving Equity in Health Care Reform

Brian D. Smedley, Ph.D., vice president and Director, Health Policy Institute, Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies will testify today at the Health Subcommittee hearing on the draft proposal for health care reform developed by the Committee on Energy and Commerce.

This will be the first day in a series of hearings on the health reform discussion draft by the Chairmen of the Committees on Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means, and Education and Labor.

Dr. Smedley will offer testimony on the needs to achieve health and health care equity and address several areas where the legislation could be strengthened with evidence-based strategies that will improve the federal investment in health equity.

With funding from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies has served as one of the nation’s premier think tanks on a broad range of public policy issues of concern to African Americans and other communities of color.
