More than $5 million has been awarded as part of the USDA’s Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service’s (CSREES) Community Food Projects (CFP) competitive grants program.  The grants, given to 27 organizations in 19 states, will help low-income people meet their food needs. Food and Society grantees, Nuestras Raices and Appalachian Sustainable Development, each received grants. Nuestras Raices will be developing up to 10 new food and agriculture businesses based on a 30-acre farm incubator site, while Appalachian Sustainable Development will promote a “field to table” strategy in southern Virginia and eastern Tennessee.
