Illinois Governor Proclaims June Specialty Crops Month

In recognition of the hundreds of Illinois farmers who are selling their fruits and vegetables at Farmer’s Markets throughout the state, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today proclaimed June Specialty Crops Month in Illinois.  Agriculture Director Chuck Hartke presented the proclamation at the Jacksonville Farmers Market and announced an additional $200,000 in Specialty Crops Grants through the Governor’s Opportunity Returns program to help small to medium size farmers promote and market their Illinois grown produce.  These funds are the last of a federal specialty crops appropriation granted in 2001.
