Students in Service to America

The work and grantees of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation are featured prominently in communication material packaged and released recently by the The White House, and the Corporation for National and Community Service. The material is part of the President’s “Students in Service to America” initiative. Representatives of the Bush Administration contacted the Kellogg Foundation in late August to request permission to use clips from the WKKF-produced video, “Learning In Deed: The Power of Service-Learning for American Schools.” The video features comments from former U.S. Sen. John Glenn, who chaired the National Commission on Service-Learning, as well as shots of WKKF-funded service-learning projects. The video clips were used on approximately 200,000 CD-ROM disks that were sent to educators, policy makers, nonprofit organizations and others following the President’s radio address on service in September. The Kellogg Foundation also helped fund dissemination of the material. The full package — which also features a guidebook to student service opportunities — can also be viewed by clicking here.
