Assistant General Counsel

The Legal team advises the Foundation and its employees on applicable laws relating to private foundations, including the rules for charitable grantmaking and other Foundation expenditures and various restrictions on non-profit entities and their employees. The Legal team also helps to develop, oversee, and enforce the Foundation’s internal policies, including those governing the Foundation’s employees, trustees, and its $ 9 billion endowment. The Assistant General Counsel will provide legal advice and support to the Foundation and staff as part of the Foundation’s Legal department.

Education / Experience

Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited law school required.
Must be admitted to practice law in any state with ability to obtain admission in Michigan.
At least four years of relevant law practice experience with a law firm and/or in-house legal department required.
Experience advising private foundations or other tax-exempt organizations is preferred but not required.
Experience drafting and negotiating contracts preferred but not required. • Experience in corporate, employment, intellectual property, privacy, real estate, and/or technology law helpful but not required.

SALARY INFORMATION: The Assistant General Counsel salary range is $159,200-$199,000. Actual starting salary of candidate will be commensurate with years, breadth, and depth of relevant experience, education, certifications, credentials, special skills, accomplishments, and other factors relevant to the position.
