Program Officer, Early Childhood Care and Education Systems

Program officers at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation are responsible for identifying and nurturing opportunities for affecting positive systemic change within communities and executing programming efforts that are aligned with organizational direction.

Education / Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to early childhood education is required and an advanced degree is preferred.
Minimum five years of related work experience and demonstrated success in a field or fields relevant to assigned responsibilities.
Significant relevant work experience with strong national networks and contacts with deep and comprehensive understanding of program design and development, systems, networking, and community change is preferred.

Additional position specific information

Understanding of federal, state, and local governance structures, funding streams and regulatory environments.

Experience influencing or supporting local, state, or national policy initiatives in early childhood education, especially related to access, quality, and workforce development.
Understanding of how early learning connects with K–12 systems and broader social service sectors (e.g., health, economic security, maternal care).
Experience managing complex initiatives or portfolios—either from within philanthropy, a nonprofit, or a public agency.
Experience in the formation or management of effective strategic and operational partnerships with other organizations.
Understanding of and experience navigating political systems and processes.
Experience working with issues and communities relevant to the programmatic priorities of the foundation.
Experience working effectively with persons from diverse cultural, social, economic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds.
