Program Officer (based in Mexico City, Mexico)

Serving under the direction of the vice president or director of, the program officer is responsible for identifying and nurturing opportunities for affecting positive systemic change benefiting vulnerable children and communities through strategic element approaches (leadership, communication, evaluation and special opportunities), and executing programming efforts that are aligned with the organizational direction. The program officer will work closely with other staff to ensure integration and coordination of efforts. Our Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) office is located in Mexico City, where this position is based, and the place based work is performed LAC wide, with special focus in Mexico, Haiti and Brazil.

Education/Experience

  • Master’s degree in a field relevant to assigned areas is preferred (ex: social sciences, development studies, community development etc.). Minimum five years’ experience in fields relevant to assigned responsibilities. Preference for significant relevant work experience (8+ years) with strong networks and contacts, as well as a broad, generalist background with deep and comprehensive understanding of program design and development, systems, networking, and community change, including expertise in education.
  • Experience working effectively with persons from diverse cultural, social, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English required; Haitian Creole, Portuguese and/or French a plus.
  • Foundation or nonprofit experience helpful.
  • Experience working in a high performing and agile organization with a team-oriented culture.
  • Skills and knowledge in racial equity, community engagement and leadership development.
  • Experience working in a high performing and agile organization with a team-oriented culture.
