@unmcoe to boldly redesign program to train #NewMexico's teachers: http://t.co/X9F2vYd7w6 #educatedkids
We strive to identify and support community-led solutions and make grants that respond to and anticipate community needs. Our approach is to work alongside communities and remove the barriers faced by many New Mexican children, especially children of color. We also encourage collaboration in this work by other funders, businesses and neighborhoods, strengthening partnerships among those who want to create a better future for children in their community.
We concentrate our investments in four counties (Bernalillo, Doña Ana, McKinley and San Juan) and in Native communities across the state, because it is estimated that more than half of vulnerable children in New Mexico live in those places.
Our investments are targeted towards ensuring all children are healthy, well-educated and economically secure. We are especially interested in supporting organizations and programs that focus on early childhood (prenatal to age 8) and whole child development because we believe that these years are a critical time in any child’s life. We are also committed to embracing the wisdom of unique cultural, social and governance traditions throughout the state, always aspiring to promote equity across boundaries of language, ethnicity and national origin.
Our New Mexico team makes grants to organizations whose work aligns with three foundation goals:
We also invest especially in organizations that embody our commitments to racial equity and community and civic engagement. In addition, we invest in partners and programs creating conditions that make achieving these goals possible, including:
