Con Alma Health Foundation
In New Mexico, Con Alma Health Foundation is working to end ethnic disparities in health care by uniting community leaders, nonprofit health organizations and industry groups to bring dental hygiene to mainstream and tribal communities.
In recent years, Alaska, Minnesota and other states have passed legislation paving the way for underserved communities to improve access to dental and health care. Under these successful models, new dental health providers are trained to provide basic oral health care services. Our one-year, $100,000 grant to Con Alma Health Foundation will create a community coalition to consider ways to improve oral health care and advocate for a new dental workforce model in New Mexico. The program will directly benefit the 22 percent of New Mexicans with no health or dental insurance, and the 9 percent who live in dentally underserved areas.
