Race issues in Texas have not disappeared and although statewide organizations attempt to include LGBT and or people of color in the organizations, the leadership of racial justice organizations is largely heterosexual, and the leadership of LGBT organizations is largely white. Consequently, time and again well meaning organizations implement or advocate for policies and initiatives which are not informed by the concerns and/or experiences of people at the intersections of these oppressions and in some cases are harmful to them.

In response, this project will engage statewide, local community organizations, and community members - focuses on healing between people of color (primarily Black and Latino), and then subsequently focus on healing with white people. This project will create opportunities in 10 diverse cities in Texas (urban, border, and rural), for statewide and local leaders and members representing racial justice, LGBT justice, economic justice, and immigration rights to participate in Dialogue Sessions designed to promote healing, establish places of common concern, and develop principles of unity as it relates to the intersection of race, sex, gender, identity, orientation, expression and class. The project intends to enable parallel comprehensive local movements that compliment, cooperate, collaborate and unify efforts towards economic, racial and LGBT justice.
