The Center for Developing Leaders for Equity (CDLE) project will provide leadership development and education services for racial equity leaders in the Bay Area to foster healing, emotional growth in concert with technical skill development, and deeper dialogue and understanding about the roles of structural racism and leadership capacity in educational disparities.
Bridging community members, educators, authorities, and experts - CDLE will be informed by the Bay Area Coalition for Equitable Schools’ 15 years of work on the ground with educators and community leaders, and will engage multiple disciplines, including adaptive leadership and organizational effectiveness studies, critical race studies, and education reform. A key goal of the Center will be to improve the breadth and quality of collaboration among diverse leaders for equity, as current leadership for urban education change tends to be fractured along class, race, professional, and ideological lines. In the end, through deep sustained attention to the way discourse about race and education is constructed in the region, by suggesting ways to change the discourse, this project will enable a new story and perspective on actions benefiting vulnerable youth.
