Formed in the summer of 2005, Act on Racism (AOR) AOR is a student-oriented anti-racism theater troupe anchored in the tradition of the theater of the oppressed. Revealing the ways in which racism and racial inequality operate in the US, members of AOR gather stories from community members (professors, students, parents, and friends) about their experiences with prejudice, stereotyping, discrimination, institutional marginalization and exclusion. Through intensive practice, member-actors negotiate ways to dramatize these stories. As Act on Racism members model anti-racist activity through performance, the result is an increase in awareness of racism and an extension of dialogue among targeted Western Michigan youth audiences.
