Project Name:

Education Partnerships: An Innovative Approach to Address Racial Equality in Arizona's PreK-12 Schools

Project Summary:

By promoting innovative education reforms, Arizona State University’s Office of the Vice President for Education Partnerships (VPEP) intends to serve Arizona’s historically underserved Latino population by enhancing academic performance, improving high school completion rates, increasing the number of students adequately prepared and admitted to college, and increasing the number of students enrolled, retained and successfully completing undergraduate degrees.

In collaboration with school districts and community partners, VPEP provides PreK-12 schools, students, and families access to ASU’s vast array of talent, energy, experience, enthusiasm and resources – specifically regarding early childhood education, and access to highly qualified teachers and educational leaders. Colleagues from across the university collaborate to advance university engagement and deliver programs, support, new curriculum, professional development, and youth opportunities. Far beyond program implementation, VPEP’s partnership role also facilitates, augments, and evaluates the distribution of intellectual, professional, human and fiscal resources to ensure that all invested stakeholders benefit and, more importantly, that the academic development and achievement of Arizona’s students are enriched. As with many states, Arizona has been hit hard by the financial crisis. Funding is sought to allow existing programs and partnerships to be expanded across Arizona.
