Teacher Town Hall with Brian Williams
Education Nation next heard from teachers. Two teachers from the University of Florida's
Lastinger Center for Learning
were invited to join the audience at the town hall. The two-hour discussion focused on teacher evaluations, poverty's role in the classroom, parent involvement and a number of other issues.
.@BWilliams: “When Americans are asked whether or not they have confidence in teachers, 71% say yes” #EdNatTTH #educationnationWKKF
Countless educators shared their thoughts online during the town hall, especially during the section on poverty:
Thrilled poverty is at the forefront of #EdNatTTH now.The struggles our kids overcome, w/ much help from teachers, is truly mind blowing.susan_keyock
Impoverished students need teachers that truly believe in them and to instill the value of education as a means to a better life. #EdNatTTHsedonia
“A student’s zip code should not determine the trajectory of their life” http://ow.ly/dVnsd #EducationNation #EdNatTTHWKKF
WKKF is proud to tackle this elephant: “poverty is obviously the elephant in the room that we’re choosing not to talk about” #EdNatTTHWKKF
Others reminded us of the value of early childhood education.
Early Childhood Educators are so important, they are worth their weight in gold!! #EdNatTTH #educationnationBrandon
RT @WomanofProverbs: RT @brandonframe: #ECE educators are so important, they are worth their weight in gold!! #EdNatTTH #educationnationWKKF

The missing piece of this conversation is culture/diversity & its effect on teaching and learning #EdNatTTH #EdNatSTHChristopher Emdin
I think this profession needs more men. Many young boys need a good male role model in their lives! #EdNatTTHThePolkaDotOwl
Less than 2% of teachers are men of color. A jaw-dropping statistic. Step up to the plate, boys! Join us! #EdNatTTHMr. Andrew Vega
A discussion of parent and family involvement also factored into the town hall.
