The inaugural issue of Y&E Lessons in Learning, a twice-yearly update on Youth and Education Programs at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, reviews major initiatives and programming priorities. The frist edition provides an overview for three active inititatives: SPARK (Supporting Partnerships to Assure Ready Kids), New Options for Youth Through Engaged Institutions, and ENLACE (ENgaging LAtino Communities for Education).
Other articles feature lessons from a closed middle-grades school reform initiative, Middle Start, and results from several general grants. Finally, there are overviews of the Youth and Education team's goal and strategies (pp. 26-27) and the Foundation's philosophy of how efforts in evaluation, communications, and policy education can increase the effectiveness and sustainability of programs.
